SELLING A HOME

Selling a home can be both exciting and bittersweet. When you’ve made the decision to sell your home, a trusted REALTOR® can take the worry off your shoulders.  If you’re just starting the process, download my Home Prep Checklist to help you cover all the bases needed to help your home make an amazing impression to buyers. Then, take a look at two quick things you can do to get you started.

  1. This may seem obvious, but start with a thorough cleaning. Next, declutter, then declutter some more. You will be surprised at how many items you look right past after years in your home. Take out extra furniture, minimize knick knacks, tuck away kitchen appliances, clear out the garage so that it can accommodate the number of cars intended, remove clothing from crowded closets and clear off surfaces. Even if you have to use a storage unit for a short time, it will pay off in the end. Also, minimize family photos. Don’t take this personally – buyers want to be able to imagine themselves living in a space and it’s hard to do that if it’s covered in the images and personality of the current owner. It’s not about you, it’s about the property.
  1. Understanding the market value of your home. When you first meet with a REALTOR, we will take a look at your home and ask about improvements and upgrades. We will then perform a thorough market analysis, looking at your home’s condition, any improvements or upgrades you have made, and what comparable properties have sold for in the nearby vicinity. Understand that this analysis is a professional guide to pricing your home to sell. Often owners have an emotional connection to how much work and love they have put into their home over the years and feel it should sell for an amount that is not realistic in the market. Just keep in mind this professional market analysis provides a range to allow for your home to shine in the area market. Trust your agent, and trust the process.
In addition to my checklist, you can also download this thorough Seller’s Guidebook, full of information from the National Association of REALTORS.
